The Kagami Biraki ceremony 2017 took place last Sunday at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo. The International Aikdio Federation would like to sincerely congratulate all the people who were promoted this year!

On the 8th of January, Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba made the announcement of the grading recommendations and held the award ceremony for the promotions. Eight highly experienced teachers received the 8th Dan, 58 were promoted to 7th Dan and respectively 214 and 476 Aikidoka are now new 6th Dan and 5th Dan. On this occasion, Doshu offered demonstration in front of the Shomen of the Hombu Dojo.

It is a particularly joyful moment for the International Aikido Federation since its Vice Chairman, Mr Leif Sunje, was among the Aikidoka that were promoted to 6th Dan Aikido Aikikai. Mr. Sunje has been practicing Aikido since the beginning of the ‘80s. He has been the President of the Swedish Aikido Federation since 2009. Starting with the 12th International Aikido Federation Congress held in Takasaki, Japan, last year, Leif Sunje took up his duties as Vice Chairman of IAF.

On Monday, the 9th of January, Nippon Budokan hosts the Kagami Biraki, the Japanese traditional ceremony that marks the beginning of the practice in this new year, 2017.
